Advantages: quick handling of claim, named drivers can accrue no claims bonuses

Disadvantages: no claims bonus only effective if you take a full policy with direct line.

My husband has used direct line for his car insurance for most of the years he has owned a car! I passed my test in September 2007 and went onto his Direct Line policy. The change was made immediatley and didnt cost that much more which was good. An additional advantagewas that I would build up my no claims bonus (although this only applies if you then take out a full policy with Direct Line, I dont think other insurers will honour this entitlement).

Around 2 weeks ago some one drove into the back of me. I got his details, which he was reluctant to give and due to the way he was acting i had reason to believe he was not insured. I immediatley went home and contacted direct line. The lady i spoke to was very helpful and confirmed that the other driver was insured. She told me as the accident was not my fault, my excess would be waived and we would get a hire car. Within 2 hours, an accident repair centre had contacted me and enterprise (the hire car company) had too.

We dropped the car off at the repair centre the day after the accident and direct line called me to confirm the other party had accepted liability.

To cut a long story short, the accident happened on a tuesday, we were told on the friday our car was a write off. We received the cheque last friday and gave the hire car back yesterday.

My husband and I are extremely pleased with the efficiency shown by direct line (the other party insurers tried to make things difficult). We would recommend them to anyone as until you make a claim you dont really deal with your insurance company (well, we didnt).

We pay monthly by direct debit and have only yesterday insured our new car with direct line. They now charge 0.0%apr on their direct debit payments so it costs you no more to pay monthly. Last year we paid £30 more for the year because we chose to pay monthly.

Summary: Fantastic claim handling department, second to none customer service
