DIRECT LINE INSURANCE

Direct Line is a well-established Insurance Company based in Scotland. They sell all types of insurance including, car, house, travel, mortages, and life insurance. They are not included in the comparison website list of insurance companies. They do not have shop premises so they cut out the middleman. Their prices are very competitive, but they are not susceptible to a 'haggle'. (I have tried)! They mainly advertise on Tv. You know the one - the little red telephone on wheels?

I have used Direct Line for many years now (over 10), and find them very efficient and easy to use. Just go to www.directline.co.uk and you can either get yourself a quote using their easy to use form, or you can telephone them. Telephoning is a little quicker in my opinion, but it all depends on whether they answer the 'phone immediately.

I have found this insurance group very useful for several reasons:

1. If you have teenage children that have just passed a driving test then this is the one for you, as your children will receive no claims bonus discounts for each accident free year. They do have to be a named driver on your policy, which is always cheaper than taking out their own policy. My daughter has three years no claims now, and my son has four years. The downside to this is they can only benefit from the 'no claims' with Direct Line themselves. Other companies will start them off again at year one. You could say therefore, this is a bit of a con, as I assumed at first it would be for any company. This is okay if you are intending to stay with Direct Line.

2. Direct line will give you, as do most other insurers now, a discount if you have two cars. I believe I am right is saying this company was the first to offer this discount, and others have copied them.

3. They offer a great cheap roadside and home breakdown service for just over £35. Always handy if you have a bit of an 'old banger'.

4. I have found them very helpful on the telephone and they will send you a new policy document without any trouble if you lose or mislay yours.

Touch wood I have never had an accident so I can't really say how they fair when all is said and done. (should you have a bump). I did however; use their free windscreen call out, which was advertised on 2CR radio. Very embarrassing for me, as I spotted a small chip in the centre of my windscreen, and after hearing the advert decided to give the repairers a call, as I didn't want to fork out more money should the whole screen smash, at some other time. Anyway, out the windscreen repair man came, seeming to be quite stressed, as he said how busy he was. He checked my car over, and came back to reception (I was at work at the time); He said sorry Mrs Connor I can't see any chip at all. I said I would show him. Out I go feeling confident I could show him straight away. Well, I said - here it is pointing at the spot, I rubbed the 'spot' and guess what, it came off. I think it must have been tree glue or something. I instantly blushed and felt a bit of an idiot. (A lot of an idiot)!

All was not lost as my colleague had a chip in her windscreen, so she used the service. The man seemed to chill out a little and did crack a smile in the end.

Final conclusion I would recommend getting a quote with them as well as the others on the comparison websites. Gocompare.com are very good, oh and confused.com

Heres to a great deal!

p.s. Forgot to mention it is a risk having your teens on your policy, but you can take out a proctect against losing your no claims bonus. Should they have a bump they will just lose their bonus.

Summary: WORTH A QUOTE

Funny about the 'chip' ;o) Probably not at the time though ;o)

Good review, I hope you never have an accident but would be interested if you do have a bump to see what your claim experience was like.
