Advantages: Cheapish
Disadvantages: Terrible customer service
While Direct Line offer reasonably cheap insurance they are the service is terrible when you have to make a claim. I bumped another car a few weeks ago. My fault entirely - as I rightly admitted. As I have a fully comp policy so had my car repaired. After two days without my car the dammage was assessed as a replacement bonnet and a replacement front bumper. Something I could have told you immediately after the accident and I can barely change a wheel. after nearly two weeks without my car - or a replacement - I found out that my car had just been sitting there gathering dust. I hadn't been contacted and I even rang a few days before to make sure that I would get it back on time and was reassured that it would be ready. I was then assured that the work will go ahead and I will get my car back soon. I tried to make a complaint but they don't even have a complaints department! The moral of my story; cheap they may be, but wait until you have to make a claim. I definately won't get my insurance with them again. I was lucky enough to have a friend give me a lift to work but if not I would have been looking at £100+ a week for a hire car at short notice. How cheap are Direct Line now?
