Advantages: Cheap, Efficient, Fantastic Breakdown service
Disadvantages: None (yet)
I am a price-led insurance buyer. On the basis that I drive high-risk cars, I will always be looking for the best deals. Usually end up going with a specialist motor insurer, as they are the only one's who can get me a half decent quote, so I was extremely surprised to find that 3 years ago, Direct line could offer me fully comp insurance on my Escort Cosworth a full £200 LESS than anywhere else! And since then, each renewal time, I get gasps of disbelief from other companies when I try to get a cheaper quote elsewhere. Unfortunately for you guys, I have never had the misfortune of having to claim on my motor insurance, so I cannot comment on their service when you need them, but in terms of getting a good quote (p.s. you'll get even cheaper rates via www.directline.com) and sorting out the paperwork efficiently, they were 2nd to none! The Direct Line philosophy is one of getting you to subscribe to all of their services. Once you have motor insuracne with them, they then offer you better discounts on household cover, breakdown cover etc. I have switched from the RAC to Direct Line breakdown assistance, and I have to say I have been extremely impressed with their service. They are about £40 a year cheaper than AA/RAC for the same service, which they provide through green flag. When I was with the RAC, I regularly had to wait over an hour for their van to arrive at the scene of a breakdown, or non-starting car in the morning, however, the Direct Line (Green Flag) service is fantastically efficient, as they subcontract all callouts to a local garage, who are literally with you in minutes, and are generally very courteous and professional. The only blot so far on the Direct line copybook, is that they could not compete for our house insurance this year - the AA were cheaper, but we'll certainly try again at renewal time to see if they can compete then. So, on the basis of their rates, efficiency, and breakdown se
rvice, DirectLine get a big thumbs up from me!

- 19/12/02 There is something wrong in the market place that we all have to go through the annual chore of ringing for a dozen quotes. Sadly many people don't bother and they get ripped off. |
