Advantages: Fast Efficient Service, Knowledgeable & Helpful Staff

Disadvantages: No Courtesy Car

I recently had my car broken into. I called Direct Line, and they instantly calmed my nerves. They arranged for my car window to be fixed within a couple of hours, I had to pay the £50.00 excess for the window, which Direct Line later re-imbursed me for. they also arranged for a local garage to call me regarding fixing my car door/lock, which the theives had also broken. I had to pay the £150 excess for this (I could have had an excess of £100 but the policy was cheaper if it was £150) and Direct Line covered the rest of the work, however as it was a two-day job to fix my car I needed a courtesy car, Direct Line will not pay for this and also charged me an extra £25 to insure me on this car for the two days.

Having also had my CD player stolen from the car Direct Line arranged for a company to come to my workplace and fit a brand new CD player to the value of the old one, which also came with it's own free insurance for one year.

The one downside was that I had a number of personal items stolen from my car including CD's, clothing etc, but the Direct Line policy only covers up to £150 of personal effects, therefore I had to claim on my house insurance for these. I suppose that'll teach me for leaving so much stuff in my car!

On the whole the service provided by Direct Line was good and efficient. They will not provide a courtesy car if it is in for repair and the limit to the personal items they will cover in your car is quite low.

I also had my car stolen with loads of stuff in it a couple of years ago, and it's taught me now never to leave anything of value in the car!

Nice info on the claims side of things, but would also be interested to know how their premiums compare - what made you choose them etc.

Good review but you might want to post a little more info to be sure of getting a VU :)
