Advantages: cheap and useless, policy for bedtime reading, free tax disc holder
Disadvantages: misleading adverts, claims backlog, Don't do as legally required
hi just to let you know these people are a nightmare- this is my dealings with them. 2001 driving on a main A rd I see a bus that has turned into a minor road and it obstructs the right view of anyone pulling out of the minor road. I see about a foot of a car poke out so I brake and stop and beep my horn. The driver pulls out and looks left and drives right into my stationary saxo, I find the driver has just passed his test and says he was waived out by the driver that was coming the other direction to I was traveling(lady drove off and left no details) I get the witness statement from an off duty policeman who says my version of events is correct and police decide that it was 100% other drivers fault. Direct line stated I needed to take photo's of the scene and they were not prepared to send anyone to do it, Direct Line repeatedly said they wanted to go knock for knock (what the drugs are they on) Direct line claims line is always engaged and you never get the same person dealing with your claim,I got messed about for six months while Direct Line sent a one line letter asking the other drivers insurance company to admit liability and giving three weeks to reply-when you call every couple of weeks they haven't checked the post "quote we have a 2-3 week backlog". Because you never get the same person I had repeated calls telling me it was knock for knock as it was a minor claim,I politely said forget it- I'll contact the obudsman(the result was an abusive Direct Line representitive who I had to put the phone down on). After months of being messed about I had to contact the financial services ombudsman who upheld my complaint and ordered Direct Line to pass my claim to a legal claims solicitor(best £15 I ever spent on legal protection). The solicitor was great, he said Direct Line were useless, had they bothered to look through the whole file it was evident that I wasn&
#39;t at fault. I had a gentleman take my statement and it went to court, the other insurance company didn't turn up and I was awarded £1500 which I had as a cheque, the joke of it was it took a year to sort out but I made £900 as I work in the trade and put in a retail quote. (did the work myself with genuine bits) I'm 24 and drive an unmodified saxo 1.1 and have six years no claims, I pitty anyone with less driving history or a hot hatch as Direct Line are (i'll remove the comment, but you know what I think) I ride a 600cc suzuki motorbike as well and the accident put the insurance up on that as well as my car even though I lost no no claims and loses were recovered.
