I have had my car insured with Direct Line for many years now. I chose them originally because their quote for car insurance was the cheapest. Unfortunately I had my car stolen. It was found but had been very badly damaged. Direct Line was excellent. They arranged for my car to be collected. The repairs were carried out in full and the car cleaned inside and out. The car was then returned to my home. I was very impressed by their service. There were no getting quotes for repairs from different garages. One telephone call to the claims department and everything was sorted out. I did cancel my insurance with them eventually when another insurance company undercut their quote. However, the following year when the renewal came up again the premium jumped steeply. I telephoned round for quotes again and Direct Line was the cheapest. So once again, I have my car insurance with them. They are very efficient. You telephone them (you can now do it online I believe) give them your details, they give you their quote. If you decide to take up their quote you can pay by credit/debit card or by monthly instalments. The paperwork is sent to you usually within 24 hours. They are a very efficient company and their customer relations are excellent. Their staff are also very helpful and polite. Most importantly, their premiums are very competitive.

- 17/08/00 Check out their House insurance as well. If you take out 2 policies - you get an extra discount.
