Elephant have decided that my car is not economical to repair. I have doubts about that, but that's just one issue. This is a case of "I should have read the small print", but who does, so this is a warning to you.

If your car is "written off", ELEPHANT CANCEL YOUR INSURANCE POLICY. They also demand the full amount of the 12 month premium (if you haven't paid it up front which i did).

This means 2 things:
1. You are not insured to drive any car, not even 3rd party. So, how do they expect you to test drive a car with the cheque they send you?

2. You lose the remainer of your policy financially as well. This is particularly painful for me, as i was only 1 month into a 12 month policy (which i had renewed!). Because Elephant cancel the policy, and DO NOT give a refund, I have lost over £300 (it cost £350 for the year).


The accident to my car happened 17 days ago. I still do not have any idea of how much they are to offer me, nor obviously do i have a cheque, or a car or any insurance. I keep getting misinformation when i phone up (almost daily), e.g. "We will have an offer sent to you within 2 days" - 3 days later, they cannot tell me when this offer will be made. You would think that if everyone has to be done in order, they could give a reasonably accurate estimate of when my claim will be dealt with.

The acccident was not even my fault - a stolen car hit my parked car. That has it's own problems, but that's not Elephant's fault. So, i can not recommend Elephant to anyone thinking of fully comp insurance, as you will get shafted.
