Advantages: Good prices - Excellent service - Even in claim situation
Disadvantages: Took 4 weeks to agree a price & receive cheque for written off car
I've read some reviews about Elephant and wanted to share my experience with them. I'm 30ish and like driving fast powerful cars and have found Elephant to be good on Insurance. To date I have insured Subaru Impreza WRX, TVR Chimaera, MX5, Prelude VTEC, Porsche Boxster and more recently SLK55AMG. I usually scour the net to get competitive quotes and usually choose between Tesco & Elephant. I hadn't had a claim until 2003 when I had a nasty accident in my boxster and a bus. I obviously got off worse - and to my disgust was held to blame for it as there were no traffic police (just the MET!) to validate my claim.
The car was a mess but fortunately I got out unmarked and called family first but then elephant, as the car was blocking a main junction. They arranged a breaker van to move the car and tow it to a porsche dealer. The car was pronounced dead as repairs would cost £20,000 - and as the car was valued at £30k, was classed as an "un economical" repair. After a little negotiation (a couple of weeks due to evidence to substantiate the value!) we agreed on a price (very near to the £30k mark) and a cheque was received. The whole ordeal was about a month. I too, was surprised that the policy was null and void on a total loss (even though I had 4 months left on the policy) but, hey, that's life. I also wasn't allowed a hire car as you don't get this in a total loss situation too - but I was fortunate enough to have alternative transport. ... albeit shakey to start off with, after a bus going into the side of you at 40 mph and pushing you into a set of railings and a traffic light pole!
So my response to some of the not too good reviews of Elephant is that my experience was good and I have and would, not hesitate to recommend them - I am happy with them.
Summary: I would recommend elephant without any hesitation based on my experiences with them

Th at's life? That's a flagrant rip off. I'm dumbfounded as to why you give 5 stars given that and the fact you couldn't get a hire car. I think that's as an absolute disgrace. |
