Advantages: None that I can see

Disadvantages: I revel in being messed about . . . .

Just had a run in with elephant. For all out there who have had good experiences there are always those that a company just can’t be bothered with. I had a head on collision with another motorist, to anyone viewing both cars they appear to have been both written off. This was the view of elephant originally; this was before they lost my car. I had to threaten them with reporting the car stolen if it did not turn up. The same day a member of elephant’s customer services team phones to explain what would happen to my insurance now that I had written of a vehicle. No they still do not know where my car is, I ask when I can receive payment and am informed that once the insurance assessor has seen the vehicle payment will be made. How can they tell me that my car is written off if the insurance assessor has not only not seen the car but does not know where the car is. The long and short of the matter is, after three weeks of being told the vehicle has been written off, (consequently I am not due a loan car – how convenient) I have bought a replacement using my overdraft, with the idea of paying the overdraft off using the insurance settlement.

Elephant now inform me they think the car can be repaired.

Despair. I hear reports that elephants may be classified as an endangered species, pity they don’t mean elephant.co.uk.

Summary: Don't insure with elephant, you will be sorry.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who's nearly reported Elephant to the Police. Fortunately my mechanic called me when the recovery company showed up to collect it to ask my permission to release it.

Oddly Elephant didn't know anything about it when I called them (their assessor had organised the collection without telling them!).

As the car was a total loss they cancelled my policy (managed to get it reinstated though, so it IS possible!) then tried to steal the car again (I'd advised them before this I wanted to keep the salvage)..

Hop e it all worked out in the end anyway!

I totally agree Elephant sucks. I had a bad experience with Elephant (see other review), but a friend got involved in an accident and it has been two years and they have not taken the other party to court... his car is still not repaired.... whats the point of a Claims Recovery Service....

Sorry to hear about your accident. My hubby had someone go into the back of his car a few weeks ago and we are having loads of problems with the insurance company. Whilst these insurance companies are quick enough and happy enough to take your hard earned money off you, when you put a claim in they are an absolute nightmare. I can understand what you are going through and I hope everything works out, Cath. xx
