Advantages: Cheapest by a long long way., Good service from agents.

Disadvantages: Contacting them isn't as easy as it could be.

I've recently bought myself a very nice, very expensive new car. And as such I needed to hunt round to get an insurance quote which would mean I still had enough money at the end of the day to actually drive the thing!

I rang round a lot of insurance companies. A lot. Think of any ad you can off the tele and I got a quote from them.

Having no luck there I went to online only companies and comparison engines.

And after that I even tried insurance brokers.

Elephant were by far the cheapest.

Although we can go on all day about the service, the cover and the claims, at the end of the day car insurance in a nessecary evil we must have - thus making the price the single most important thing.

Elephant represented the best choice in terms of cost and they had no hidden requirements or costs.

Having said that, noone is perfect. The site design is questionable and a little clunky in places, and indeed the first time I tried to get a quote I was presented with a blank screen having spent ten minutes filling out my details.

Which leads nicely onto the second negative point of contacting them - which isn't the easiest thing to do. If you look hard enough you will be able to find a "contact me" button which allows you to request a phone call from them. Once on the phone I found the agents to be polite, efficient, professional, and helpful. (good work chaps!) It's just actually getting to them which was the difficult bit! I even had a letter asking me to get in touch with them that had no contact details on it whatsoever!

Anyway, both negative points are minor to say the least.

The cover is comprehensive, giving you all the usual things you would expect... and a couple of extras you might not. Courtesey car was one. I've not had to claim yet and frankly hope I never do, but if the service of the agents is anything to go by then I shouldn't imagine that would be
too difficult.

But to return to the main point... they are cheap. Well... not cheap, but certainly cheaper. Car insurance is just another expense you can do without when running a car - elephant offer the sensible choice in this department and I have no idea why everyone doesn't own a policy.

Assuming they have a car of course.

Unfortunately from bitter personal experience their claims handling is poor at best and they have clauses in the cover meaning if your car is a total loss you do NOT get the courtesy car and your policy is CANCELLED. Also, as far as their breakdown cover is concerned, they accept no responsibility for damage caused by their subcontractors. Convenient - given one of their subcontractors fitted the wrong part to my car, causing in a fire that resulted in it being declared a total loss.

I thought that elephant was a good car insurance company. However, you only find out how down and dirty they are when you have to make a CLAIM. They give the impression they are cheap because they are internet based etc..., however in my view they are cheap, because their Policy has many clause to claw money back!! Their insurance cover is SUB-STANDARD.

I had a nasty experience with CHURCHILL (useless claims department), But Elephant are even worse! (nasty clauses in the policy).

You pay for peace of mind and to protect you from financial loss, but that is NOT what they deliver!!

I think it's important that people are aware that you cannot pay in installments unlike many of the Insurance companies, I think this is one of the reason's it is so cheap, but therefore out of the question for many people.
