Advantages: excellent service, fast service, accurate service
Disadvantages: watch the price of those extras
I joined elephant.co.uk 3 years ago. The tariff was very reasonable, although it's true that you do need to watch out what extras you're adding on because the cost can escalate if you decide on including all the nice-to-have's. However, the issue of a few quid doesn't really interest me. What I want above all is good, reliable service and in this respect elephant.co.uk delivers. Over these three years, although I have never actually claimed (and therefore can't rate the company on their claims procedure) I have made a number of alterations to my policy. I have modified cars, switched cars around, had a second car on limited insurance, swapped temporary insurance for full and vice versa, and several other things... Every transaction I have made has been completed in minutes. In every case, the elephant staff have answered the phone within 5 rings, and in every case the new documentation arrived - completely accurate - within 3 days, sometimes within 24hrs. In every case, the staff have been knowledgeable and polite, even advising me on ways to save money when I mistakenly asked for full (12 month) insurance on a second vehicle when temporary insurance was available. Even on complex transactions, I've never been shunted between departments, never been on hold more than a few seconds, and never had to explain myself more than once. Again, I will say be slightly careful, as sometimes there are small charges (i.e. altering your policy over the phone instead of using the web) but these charges are always spelled out to you. After having dealt with the real scum of the insurance world in the past (being conned, having to deal with incompetents, waiting 11 months for policies to arrive, being on hold for 90 minutes, being cut-off, waiting 2hrs for my call to be answered, spending years eradicating errors from my policy, etc. etc.) I can honestly say that elephant.co.uk is a real surprise
and a breath of fresh air and (but don't tell them this!) I'd gladly pay double to retain this level of service.

rajeshk - 03.06.05 I agree that most insurance companies suck if you have to make a claim, but Elephant.co.uk is even NASTIER then the rest!!!. They might be polite or promt to respond to email, but their Insurance is Sub-Standard. They have nasty clauses in their policy!. Look out for "Cancellation Of Insurance" Clause and "Betterment" etc...
Read the Policy is my advice!!
