Advantages: none
Disadvantages: too many to list
After accepting an insurance quote (3rd Paty Fire & Theft) for £255 I was contacted by Kwik-Fit Insurance Service to tell me that my previous insurer could only confirm 4 years no claims bonus (I stated I had 5 originally) and I would have to pay £25.00 extra. I checked my insurance policy documents and actually discovered that I have had 6 years insurance without any claims, therefore I sent photocopies of the policies that I had held for the past 6 years along with details of each insurer. I received a reply from Kwik-Fit asking me to call them with futher information. After waiting for 10 minutes on hold I managed to speak to an operator who told me to call back another time as they could only deal with claims at that time. I sent another letter explaining this and then received the exact same letter requesting that I call them with further information. I eventually managed to speak to an operator who told me that despite the fact that I had provided all the information and policy photocopies I still had to pay the extra £25.00 as they will only accept my previous insurer's proof of 4 years no claims bonus. I requested a cancellation amount and was told that after having held this insurance policy for only 22 days I would only receive £188 refund from the original £255, a loss of £67. The icing was put on the cake when I received a quote from another insurer for £233 (declaring only 4 years no claims bonus), meaning whatver I do I'm losing money to Kwik-Fit. Finally I had a problem with brakes that I had fitted only 2 months ago, again by Kwik-Fit. After returning the car under guarantee to the Kwik-Fit garage I was told the brakes were fine and I needed some other repairs totalling £140. After taking the car to two other garages who told me the brakes were defective, I ended up paying to have the defective brakes replaced by another garage as Kwik-Ft maintained that they were not faulty, despite the fact that they should have
replaced them under their "no quibble" guarantee. I really, really don't like this company at all. ______________________________________________ ___ ADDENDUM: After complaining to Kwik-Fit's head office, I was contacted by a customer service rep who informed me that they had contacted both my previous insurers which confirmed my 6 years no claims bonus. I am currently waiting for this to be updated on my insurance record. Furthermore I was eventually offered a partial refund for the defective brake disks. Although these problems have been sorted it would of been nice to of had a little more help from Kwik-Fit instead of having to make an official complaint.

- 17/05/03 Nikki is right, but the isurance parts do sound a right shower.
The quality of their 'depots' do vary considerably. When Tom Farmer was in charge, the ones in Edinburgh were first class. They are now much more agressive and i won't do business with them. |

- 17/05/03 By law they have to accept what your last insurer told them. The proof you talk about does not show if you have had a claim in the last 12 months. Why have you not taken the matter up with your previous insurer? |
