Advantages: I ain't found any...........
Disadvantages: Cost, service, cost, service, cost, cost, cost, service.........
I was with Kwik-Fit motor insurers for 3 years, and over that time they frustrated me with their terrible service. The reason I went to them in the first place was that they offered me a reasonable quote, and I could pay by monthly instalment. However, it was hard to clarify over the phone how much exactly you were to pay. You would ask them if the price included everything, instalment chrges etc. and feel you had a good deal. However, after the D-D had been set up and you were sent the docs, you would normally find that, despite 'clarifying' the price on the phone, there would usually be about £30 added for instalment charges! Continually, they would send you the wrong paperwork, sometimes with your old car on it, and often they would send you the same things, literally, 5 times. This would not be so bad if the rest of their service was okay and the prices cheap. However, trying to get through to operators was VERY annoying - sometimes having to wait and listen to the same tune down the phone for over half an hour. Also, it is the sort of place that if your query is in the least bit complicated, you will get passed round everyone, no-one would be able to help you, and eventually they would probably cut you off, leaving you ready to explode with frustration on the other end of the phone. I finally gave up on Kwik-Fit after I asked for a renewal quote this year. I couldn't believe it. last year, I paid £340 for my insurance, with 4 yrs no claims. This year, reaching 5 yrs no claims and in the same car, my premium miraculously leapt to £640 for no apparent reason!! - the explanation I got was that all companies were having to put up prices this year because of tax, and that I would find the same wherever I looked. They even sounded surprised when I told them i'd be going elsewhere. I shopped around and got it to £305 with First Direct! I wouldn't recommend this to anyone unless the price was VERY good - and watch for the hidden char
ges. Also, if you do pick them, it is really worth the effort to phone around nearer renewals time!

- 02/10/01 Yep, similar story happened to me. All of a sudden my insurance went up to £600 (which is more than my car's worth) because they decided that, since I have only been in this country for 7 years (as opposed to their preferred 9 years), I was not as safe a driver as a 17 to 24 year old male driver (for most insurance companies the highest risk group). I had been driving safely for 3 years, so I really wasn't happy. In the previous year they chose Drake Insurance as my insurance provider (you know, the once that went bust), and they also didn't manage to get my birthday right (after two years with them I hadn't aged a bit - s'ppose that's a good thing, right?) They also didn't realize that after two years with them without a claim my NCB was apparently still 1 year. I'm now with Tesco car insurance. That was quick, cheap, and Tesco are probably not going into liquidation any time soon. |

- 09/08/01 Good op and in my experience they haven't changed over the past year. Just had a Kwik fit quote by e:mail through Easycover for £307. (Bear in mind we are in our fifties with a modest saloon built in Newcastle and 20 plus years trouble free driving). When I phoned them to confirm, it was all very confusing. Especially the claimed roadside cover. Only after persistent questioning did I establish that this only covered accident recovery, not mechanical - that was a hefty 79 extra! With all the extras, in the end it came to well over £450.
