Advantages: You drive legally
Disadvantages: You dont get to drive at all
Insurance companies…, there are hundreds of them but none who want to insure me not for a reasonable price. I recently passed my driving test in June 2000 and after not being in the position to afford lessons for quite some time I made it my aim to do it and I was over the moon when I got told by the examiner “congratulations you have passed” but that feeling lost its edge a bit when I found out exactly how expensive insurance really is. My Dad said I could drive his car, which is a Frontera Sports 4x4 (ouch) even on third party not many would insure me and those who would charged over £800. This obviously didn’t happen and although I could get a car tomorrow I couldn’t drive it, as there would be no chance of me being able to pay the insurance!!! The reasons for this are; 1. 1. I’m a new driver so therefore I have no driving history and am the most likely to make a claim. 2. I am also 22 the premiums come down significantly when I reach 25, I may be able to drive my car in three years then (great)! I understand now why there are so many people who don’t pay their insurance as I wish I could drive around a have that bit more freedom that at present I don’t have, id like nothing more than to throw a few things in the boot and head to the nearest resort with my son but there’s this one thing stopping me – insurance. I know of many ways of getting cover notes but knowing my luck I would get caught and be made an example of. To me it’s not worth taking the risk so im stuck waiting either to win the lottery, for the premiums to come down in price or to just get older.

- 22/01/01 Have you tried AXA Direct? I have found them to be extremely competitive and my daughter, who is only 23, uses Diamond. The latter specialise in insuring lady drivers. Give them a try, it will only cost the price of a call. Good Luck. |

- 15/01/01 I passed my driving test almost 14 years ago at the age of 17. Third party fire and theft insurance cost me just £160 for the year, it would now cost at least £700. Insurance has rocketed high above inflation, especially for young drivers. It didn't help when the Tory government introduced Insurance Premium tax a number of years ago, this has increased too. Car insurance is an unfair rip off that you are forced to get, and when it comes down to claiming the service is often substandard. |

- 15/01/01 Very good opinion, insurance is very unfair as being are you are forced to buy it. |
