Everybody hates paying for car insurance, for the vast majority of us it is a sizeable expense that we will never recoup any benefit from. It is law in this country that every motorist has at least third party cover, with hefty fines if you break this law.

In the early years a young driver I endured insurance companies penalizing me for being in a high risk group and to an extent I understand why they have to charge such high premiums for such a high risk group. What I fail to understand is, why when my car is depreciating in value and I am now out of that risk group, that this year every quote I have received from numerous companies is significantly more expensive than last year.

Having spoken to others it is clear that this is true in many cases this year and as most of us need a car to get to work we are powerless to do anything except stump up the money.

Although I in no way condone it, I understand what forces some people to risk the wrath of the law and not purchase insurance. It is just becoming to expensive, and in many rural towns there is not the public transport network necessary to give a realistic alternative to a car.
What is the answer to this problem, I really don’t know but I find it very frustrating that on top of the already horrendous costs of running and buying a car in this country, the insurance is pushing the whole thing to becoming beyond my means.
