I have read in the press lately about these insurance hikes that are you due in the coming year. I'm sure this is due to those people who con the insurance companies out of money by issuing false claims. This increases the price for the rest of us.

I've been looking in to this over the last few weeks as my car insurance policy is due. I have decided the following - perhaps you agree, perhaps not!

1. You will get a cheaper price over the phone in the majority of cases. Once you find the right few insurers to speak to, you can barter with them on the phone. They are all used to it and can reduce the quote significantly.

2. There are too many insurers in the press that 'lie'. Quote me happy - more like quote me more! Save 10% - Yeah ok, if you read the miles of smallprint.

3. The best way to go about insurance is to narrow down which insurers you need to speak to, then get on the phone. I have found what appears to be a reputable site www.insurancewide.com which does this for you. They have an online tool which tells you which insurers you should contact - it works a dream! Takes about 30 seconds and saves hundreds of pounds.
