Advantages: You don't get sued if you hit someone

Disadvantages: Too expensive, cant claim anyway, due to increasein next premium, waste of time

I am currently in the process of purchasing a new car, as my current one is starting to get a bit tired now with 120,000 miles on the clock, and many cold winters (and summers) having been braced by it. The heater has also packed in which is a pain in this weather!!

Anyway, I have recently tried to get some quotes for a car that I fancy - a 1994 model Toyota MR2 GT - (UK Version, not import). Nothing too fancy, or very fast, but nice all the same. I figured I am now 27, have never crashed in 10 years, and have only ever gotten 3 points for speeding, so why not go for something a bit nicer than average? After all, I work hard enough to earn my dosh. I have looked at some MR2's recently, and have seen some that I could afford. However, after getting various quotes this week, the cheapest I have had is £1286 fully comp!!!!!

If anybody works in the insurance industry, please could you advise me why I am expected to pay so much?

My advice to you all is indeed to shop around for insurance, as they can differ greatly - one firm quoted me £10518.30p PER YEAR, to insure a £7,500 MR2 Turbo!!!!!!

But they do all tend to be the same once you get down to the cheaper end of the quotes, and that means still paying way too much for a nice car. What a cruel country we live in!!!!!!!!!!

It's the "no win, no fee" merchants that are to blame. People should put up with more and not try to get a fast buck from minor inconveniences.
