Advantages: Its the law!, It protects you and other road users
Disadvantages: Its too expensive
I wonder if people who drive uninsured because they say the premiums are to high realise that they’re the reasons why motor insurance is so expensive! The government have a found which is paid for by insured drivers so that if an uninsured driver smacks into the back of you can still claim of the their insurance. This means that the more uninsured drivers they are the higher the premiums are and has now become impossible for 18 year olds to get car insurance even if they are good drivers. For this reason more and more young people don’t have car insurance because they would rather take a risk. I think the government must act and help subsidise the insurance companies so that the premiums come down. This way more people will have insurance and the premiums can naturally come down. It can now cost £3500+ for an 18 year old to insure a 900cc G reg Fiesta! One day I will have car, but I will have to win the lottery first!

- 18/06/01 The government do not have a fund to pay out from when there is an accident. The insurance companies have a pot and they have to ensure that they have enough to pay out in case of claims. They give each person a risk factor, and if you have made claims in the past where an accident was your fault, naturally you are higher risk. Be Aware though, if you make a compensation claim for personal injury, your risk will be very very high |

- 18/06/01 Why is it so expensive? Ask Claims Direct, The Accident Group, and all those other US style ambulance chasers. |
