Advantages: Competitive Quote, Good Customer Service, Easy to use website

Disadvantages: Deposit by credit card

Well it's that time again - dreaded insurance quotes. You know how it is hours and hours of ringing around to find a suitable, cheap quote.

I went through the usual yellow pages, internet search engine to no avail. Everyone wanted high premiums and high excesses.

So I came across Eagle Star at www.eaglestardirect.co.uk. Went onto the web site. It was easy to use, and loaded up quickly unlike most of the other sites I went onto. No waiting around for the information to transfer onto the database. Quick and painless.

The website only wanted the basic information - not too many questions to be answered just the usual name, address, car registration, NCB etc.

I waited with anticipation expecting another high insurance premium, but much to my surprise Eagle Star came up with a quote that was around 50.00 lower than any of the other quotes I had received. This was for a 1.8 Ford Mondeo R Reg and was only 346.00 fully comprehensive for a driver over the age of 25 with a driving licence held for 8 years and 7 years NCB. This was for the Silver Service quote. I also had another option which was for a Gold Service quote, the difference being that the Gold Service included Roadside Recovery Assistance and came to approx 50.00 more.

The quote also included a low excess of 100.00 and you could also bring the price of the quote down by increasing the voluntary excess. Legal fees are included in the quote, together with recovery in case of an accident.

I completed the "Buy this Quote" section and was given the opportunity either to pay in full or to pay in installments. I chose the installments option which required a deposit to be paid by credit card of around 76.00. The installments would then be spread over 10 months with the first installment to be paid 2 months from the date of the start of the cover. APR was only in the region of 8.00%.

I needed a cover note as soon as possible, so I rang a member
of the staff on the number given (Tel 0800 33 38 00) and was assured that the cover note would be posted first class post this evening to arrive with me tomorrow morning. (Yes the quote did arrive the next morning as promised!!)

Also on ringing Eagle Star I discovered that you could also arrange for the first two month's direct debit payments to be taken directly out of your account instead of payment of the deposit by credit card.

I will definitely be staying with Eagle Star insurance as, not only was their quote highly competitive, but also the staff were friendly and efficient and the website was by far one of the easier sites I came across.

All in all I think the total quote and the phone call took about 10 minutes.

Eagle Star come highly recommended.

Thanks for reading.

Well written, you certainly have to shop around every year.

I have found on-line quotes tedious and often much pricier than ringing around.

Don' t stay with them without ringing around next year.

I'll bear these in mind when my insurance is due for renewal.
Good op!
