conatcted Norwich Union to get a car insuarnce quote for this year. My call was answered in india, Not that I am racist but I found it very hard to undertand the member of staff I was talking too, not only that there was a terrible delay in the line, The normal call for car insurance lasts about 10mins this taken me in excess of 20mins.

I found that NU were really bad for adding things on to the quote without even telling me,

I got the orgianl quote in excess of £520 and I told the staff that this price was terrible compared to what I had been offered from another insurer. The staff then said ok we can remove the following:

Foreign Use £21.00

Gives you the same level of cover that you have in the uk:

EU Countrys Only
Andorra, Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark (inc Faroe Islands), Finland, France (inc Monaco), Germany, Gibraltar, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Republic of Ireland, Italy, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, San Marino, Slovakia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Vatican City.

This is to a Max of 90days in one trip and 6mths in one year

Physiotherapy £12.00
This provides you with £400 for physiotherapy following a car accident, Note I am not sure if this is fault/non fault accident

European Protection Plus £36.00
Breakdown recovery service that covers you whilst in the uk and in any EU country
Cover is provided by the RAC.

Legal Expenses £18.00
provided through RAC and gives you up to £50k of leagl cover in the event of any accident, This will help you get any out of pocket expenses back, Ie wages, excess etc

Taking these of saved me £66.00

So now I bagan asking the usual questions, Courtsey car, Excess, Stereo cover ETC

NU will only provide you with a courtesy car if you pay extra at the time of taking your insurance. Even at that you only get a car for 14days

Excess where worded a little different with Nu voluntary and compulsary excess, Beware these two excess will be added together in the event of an accident.

Stereo cover is unlimited if the stereo is standard if not then you will find a limit of £500

Personal effects cover, This covers you personal items, Ie Mobile, Jackets etc, They will pay un to £150 for these should they be stolen.

I also asked about any additional charges that may apply to me in the event of changing cars or for cancellation of policy.

They will charge £30.45 plus pro rata for cancellation.

No charge is made for making changes, ie Re-print of docs, change of car. However you policy price may change as the risk will change.

There staff, They where friendly and helpful however I found it really hard to understand due to the fact I was talking to someone in india. There was a 2/3sec delay on the line also

I hope you find this information helpful as I did, I belive that many people who buy car insurance don't know enough about the product.

There seem to be very mixed messages about NU. This is the first one on this site regarding the Indian Call centres.
Very useful review thanks, Wendy
