Advantages: cheap

Disadvantages: let you down

Dont even bother takin out insurance with provident. As a young driver, they was the cheapest company going, but when I needed them most, they was not there. They just take your money and run.

After being with them for 2 years, I had a pending prosecution at the time of renewal. I was being prosecuted for no insurance on driving other vehicles, I had believed I was covered by my fully comprehensive insurance, but provident said that I was not - it was hidden in the small print. Even the police, and my solicitor had trouble understanding this small print - so what chance did I have. My first let down with them, yet did I know there was more to come.

My court case was the day after my renewal date. I asked provident if it was possible to obtain a 7 day cover note, until I knew the outcome, then I would be able to renew with them, it would save time, and I would be able plan my finances better as it made a big difference with/without the points. I was declined, and provident said that they would not even be offering me renewal. My second let down.

I have accepted that I should have made more enquiries into this part of the policy, but feel that I have been let down by provident. Never again will I consider getting insurance with them again.

Lesson 1 - Read the small print
Lesson 2 - Avoid provident.

Not wanting to sound rude but as an insurance broker you deal with things like this far more than is needed. All that was needed was a quick look on the certificate of insurance which tells you the use you are covered for. Driving other vehicles is an extension generally only open to people 25 years old and upwards. As a young driver paying high premiums you should realise that if you are being charged that much to drive one car why would you have the addition to drive any other car??? Read your certificate to avoid disaster!

Gutted for you, must confess to not ever properly reading small print but this is a stark reminder why we all should! :)
