Royal and Sun Alliance, through What Car Insurance, are one of the few companies which will give comprehensive cover on a personal imported car, whilst the car is still abroad. A lot of places will only offer third party insurance for those first few miles. Their quote was competitive and the process for taking out the insurance was reasonable trouble free. *UPDATED* Its renewal time in my house, and the renewal form came through the post, but hello, its gone up by £120 !!! I was totally gobsmacked. Off I trotted to Direct line and the AA, and found that all the prices were much the same, give or take £20. My last attempt was with Churchill, their quote was £130 cheaper that all the others, with the same cover.
