Advantages: Great savings, reliable company, no papers, rainsing money for charity

Disadvantages: absolutely none

As I get older the years seem to fly by so much quicker and unbelievably we are fast approaching May which used to fill me with dread at the thought of having to trawl through Insurance Company after Insurance Company trying to find the best deal that would save me the most money on my car insurance (May being my renewal month in case you hadn’t figured that out!)

However, last year I came across a little car insurance gem by the name of Swiftcover.com. It was then still a fairly unheard of company as prior to the annoying ‘click click, don’t cluck cluck’ adverts that hit our television screens around the summer time and so since its rise to greater stardom and to one of the superior online insurance companies it may even outshine its longstanding, well established competitors.

The website has changed very slightly in the last year since I took out my insurance with them so I will explain the site as it stands today.

When you first enter www.swiftcover.com, a very simple page appears, white background split into two sections. On the left is the ‘Fast Quote Please’ section where you can obtain a quote, as the title suggests, within a matter of minutes for your car, travel or pet insurance. On the right is the ‘My Swift Space’ section where you can log in to retrieve your quote, change your details and where your info will be stored if you decide to accept their quote etc.

I only took out car insurance with them so that is all I will go through, I will not talk about travel or pet insurance.

Simply click on the care on ‘Fast Quote Now’ section and it will direct you to another page called Car Insurance – Your details, and this is simply where you put in your personal information such as Name, address, occupation, date of birth etc. Click on Get Quote at the bottom of the page and as you only put in your house number and postcode on the previous section it will ask you to select your address from the list and click next.

On the next page, in big bold blue letters on the right it will display the amount of your quote. On the left it will say “Important! Your quote has been based on these assumptions - please check these carefully. You must change any that are incorrect by clicking on the Change Details buttons” and this is important that you do check everything and amend as appropriate for you as the ‘assumptions’ can be for example:
You are the only driver
You or your spouse or partner is the owner and registered keeper
Your annual mileage is 10,000
Your car is kept overnight on the driveway
Your car is worth less than £30,000
Your car is fitted only with the manufacturer's standard security
Your car has not been modified
Your car is used for Social, Domestic, Pleasure & Commuting
You need comprehensive cover

Simply click ‘Change’ to amend any of these details and then next which will take you back to the previous page but with the amendments changed. It may have increased or decreased the figure on the right depending on the amendments.

There is a Voluntary Excess button on the right, underneath the Quote which you can change if you wish. You can select from £0 - £1000 and the higher the excess you choose the less the quote will be.

Click Next and the last page will be ‘Your Quote Options’ where again it makes assumptions as to your Legal Cover and Breakdown Cover etc requirements which you can amend as necessary which will effectively change the price.

If you click Next after this page it will ask you to create a username and password (unless an existing customer) and it will save your quote for you to retrieve later or you can choose to accept the policy.

I’m waiting for my renewal quote to be emailed to me which should arrive anytime soon but I have no doubts that I will use them again this year.

It was the cheapest quote by £57 that I was given last year but I also got the best cover that I have ever had as not only did I get Fully Comp (which I usually opt for anyway) but for the £57 cheaper I also managed to get Legal Cover, Protected NCD, Up to £100,000 paid out for the loss of sight or limbs or even death (nice thought!) and a replacement car if mine had to be repaired so it was most definitely worth it.

Another great thing about this company is that it is fully online so saves paper (which, in this growing need for recycling and saving the environment we seem to have in our world now, seems a great idea to me). They send you your quote via email and if you decide to accept they also send you your policy cover etc by email which is great for me as I lose everything so can keep it in a folder on my email account. It does have a printer friendly view option also though in case you do wish to print it out.

If you need to contact them you can actually call them (in the UK!!) between 8am-8pm Mon-Fri, 9am-5pm Sat and Sundays and Bank Holidays between 10am-4pm. You can also contact them via email as well if you wish.

For every new policy taken out with them they will also contribute £1 to NSPCC (or Children 1st if taken out In Scotland) which is fantastic. I realise that £1 is not a huge amount, but if you think how many people could end up taking a policy out with swiftcover.com then it could end up being a very generous donation to a very worthy cause.

Overall I think this is a fantastic Company that will not only save you money but will also make your insurance buying less stressful (and with the added bonus of raising money for charity). If your insurance renewal is coming up then I suggest you take a look as it only takes a matter of minutes and you may be pleasantly surprised – I know I was!!
