Advantages: Easy-to-use website, all done online, cashback for new customers

Disadvantages: No cashback for repeat customers, don't know how good they are if you need to claim

Swift Cover is an insurance company which is part of the AXA group. It was founded in 2005 and provides car insurance, travel insurance, home insurance and pet insurance.

In October 2008 I moved my car insurance to Swift Cover and have been impressed with the service and how easy it is to do everything online. You see, Swift is an online-only insurance provider - every interaction you have with the company is done online (even making a claim). There's no phone number to ring, which I appreciate may put some people off but their prices have been very competitive and I've had no reason to complain.

Why did I chose Swift Cover?
I'm a sucker for a deal and will have a good look round at all the major insurance companies before I purchase, and so every year I look down the list of Quidco's deals and visit the insurer's website taking my time to do a quote. In October 08, Swift Cover gave me the best renewal price for my car insurance (£340) and had the bonus of a generous £40 cashback if I went through Quidco (which I did), making my insurance for the year a flat £300.

The website is easy to get a quote from, asking you for all the usual details and serving up a quotation in a matter of seconds. If you get stuck, there's a useful live chat feature available as well. If you're happy with the quote, you can buy online using your credit or debit card. Once you've purchased your insurance you'll have to register with the site and print off your policy documents, which will be waiting for you in the My Account area.

The only offline interaction I had with the company was when I had to post them proof of my no claims bonus, which is as simple as... well, posting a letter!

What are they like for claims?
Fortunately, I can't comment on this as (touch-wood and fingers-crossed) I haven't had to make a claim yet. As I said above, claims are made online, but apart from that I can't tell you much more.

Will I renew my insurance with Swift cover?
No, I've already changed it to Aviva.

Why would I change if they're that good?
Cashback, pure and simple! Swift only pay cashback to new customers, as an existing customer I'm not entitled to any more cashback and so I've spent the last few weeks looking at other deals for this year's insurance. Swift have done me a quote of £350 for the year, which is very competitive, but I've gone for Aviva's £70 cashback offer instead.

Policy cancellation is again done online and is hassle-free. To be honest, I thought I'd have to ring them and was expecting a counter offer over the phone, but no - it's all done online.

Would I recommend them?
Yes, I would. I can't comment on what they're like if you have to make a claim, but their quotes are cheap and their website is excellently-designed and very easy to use. If I had any loyalty, I'd stay with them. But hey, I'm a cashback whore and I make no apologies for that! :)

Summary: Well worth considering - especially if you wanna do everything online
