Advantages: Cheap, easy to manage.

Disadvantages: I'm not convinced that the staff know what they're doing.

I have been with swifcover.com for almost a year now. Although some may have been swayed by that weird advert with Iggy Pop, personally I decided to go with them because they gave me the cheapest quote on all the insurance comparison websites, and, like a lot of people out there, saving pennies is important to me right now.

*******The cost********

The quote that Swiftcover gave me was for £80 a month, although this is steep considering the type of car I drive (a Nissan Micra), I didn't have a claims bonus, I live just outside a city, I've been driving for less than two years and I also have three points on my licence (due to an unfortunate incident at some traffic lights). So all things considered this was the best of a bad bunch of quotes!

I believe that if I'd gone through Quidco then I would have received a cash back bonus, but I wasn't aware of this at the time, so I missed out on this.

*********My thoughts ********

The thing I like about Swifcover is that all your documents are stored on-line and you can access them twenty-four hours a day. I am hopeless when it comes to filing so this was a bonus for me, but I have constant access to a computer, I can see that the Swifcover system would be quite troublesome for those that don't.

I haven't been diving for very long so my experience of car insurance companies is limited, so read into my experiences with Swiftcover what you will...

I had to contact Swiftcover a few months into my policy because some yobs had tried to steal my car. My boyfriend had caught them in the act so luckily they didn't get away it, however the wires were cut (the police said the people that tried to take it were amateurs because they'd hot-wired it incorrectly). Anyway I was left with a car that wouldn't start so I had to contact Swiftcover.

Now, firstly, I know that people have to learn, but I expect the person I'm speaking to on the phone to have a certain amount of knowledge if they are talking to customers unsupervised and it was blatantly obvious that the adviser I got through to didn't know what she was talking about. I couldn't believe it when she told me that I wasn't covered under my insurance because the car hadn't actually been taken (I have third party, fire and theft insurance) and it had been damaged by a thief!

After coming off the phone wondering what to do next, I decided to call Swiftcover back up, because I felt that it was unfair that I wasn't covered because thieves HAD damaged my car. I was ready to rant and rave at Swiftcover about them being unreasonable, but this time the adviser told me that the previous adviser had got it wrong and that I was covered after all. However, because of the car's age, the insurance company told me that they would have to write it off. I was given a day to decide if I wanted to go ahead with this.

Thankfully my Mum's boyfriend is a car pro, he has been doing cars up for years and after spending a few hours looking at my car her was able to get it working again. So on this occasion there was no need to claim on the insurance.

To be honest I was rather disappointed that Swiftcover wanted to just write the car off without sending anybody to look at it, but I suppose this may be common practice when it comes to older cars.

******** Would I use Swiftcover again? ***********

If Swiftcover come out the cheapest when I look to renew my insurance in January then I will definitely use them. I like the fact that all my documents are saved on-line, and, at the moment, finding the cheapest insurance on the market is the most important aspect to insurance shopping.

I know that when I called Swiftcover with an issue, I spoke to an inexperienced member of staff (it happens), but I'd still recommend this company to anybody that has 24 hour internet access. However I would advise you to speak to more than one adviser if you need to make a claim, to ensure that you are being given the correct information.
