Disadvantages: You lose your money!

I've used Tesco car insurance for a number of years - they've always been quite cheap and I have never had to claim as I've never had any accidents, so I cannot testify as to their service in that respect.
What I do know is this.
I didn't need my car insurance any more, but I had 2 months left in the yearly contract and so I decided to let it run to the end so that I collected my yearly no claims bonus.
I phoned Tesco customer service to arrange cancellation of policy after the final payment was taken.
They agreed to this....but they didn't take any action whatsoever.
INSTEAD
They let it auto-renew for another year at the end and continued to take payments from my account.
They didn't respond to the letters I wrote, and were extremely rude when I spoke to them on the phone.
They denied they had received the cancellation request in the first place, even refusing to check their call history (supposedly they record every call for training purposes!!!)
I ended up cancelling my direct debit to stop them taking further payments.
They took £83 in unauthorised payments from me and yet had the nerve to set a debt collection agency onto me to collect £53 for the missed payments.
I will never use Tesco for anything again.
