Advantages: Club card points, good offers to join

Disadvantages: High cost to protect no claims bonus

Recently changed car insurance companies from tesco to esure, however I was with tesco for two years. I changed as I found it cheaper and tesco were unable to match the price.

When I first joined I was given £25 in petrol vouchers (which I had to call about several times before I actually received them!) and there does always seem to be special offers on to entice people to join. A friend who joined last year was given either £50 or £100 off a tom tom sat nav.

Whilst I was with them the only problem I ever had was when I changed banks and the direct debit was not set up in time so I got a letter about none payment. I called and explained the situation to the woman on the phone and she was very nice about it and I made a payment over the phone and she made a note about it and advised me on when to check dd was set up for to make sure it did not happen again.

I was a bit disappointed the second year I was with them that I did not receive any special offers although there was a great one advertised at the time, it was however for new customers only.

So this year I used all the price comparison websites when I received my premium and I was fairly shocked that I was managing to get savings of over £100. I called tesco to see if they were able to match it and the person I spoke to wasn't very helpful and just said they were not able to. I did ask why it so high from them to protect my 4 years no claims, which came in at £75 but three other insurance companies I had looked into the highest it cost was £25. He just said it was based on a percentage of the premium.

One thing that will make me look into them again next year is that I received a letter from them today, with a questionnaire in about why I left and offering me 1000 club card points and a £20 voucher if I return to them in the future.

Summary: Was happy with tesco car insurance so will look out for them again in the future

I was fortunate enough not to have a claim whilst I was with them so couldn't review that part. I know what you mean though, but without that information I judge on the customer service and how well known the insurance company is.

The main thing I want to know about an insurance company is how they handle a claim, I think one cannot really know what they are like until then.
