Advantages: Afforable insurance for younger people
Disadvantages: None
When I first took out my policy, I was 17 years old therefore was fully expecting to pay through the nose for my first car insurance policy. I had a 1.4l car, a little larger than my friends' 1.2s, so was expecting to be paying horrendous amounts since I was a first time driver!
I used a few compare sites, but unfortunately I couldn't see many well-known insurance companies on the cheaper end of the list. I did look out for Tesco but they must have not been included in compare sites at that time, as I could not see it. One of my friends was with Tesco though, so I clicked onto the website and decided to have a look online.
The insurance form is really simple to fill out. You type in your details: your name, address, phone number, clubcard number if you want the points, date of birth, how long you've had a license for, have you claimed recently, etc, all basic questions. You then click next and type in information about the car: license plate (if known, and its best if you do find this out as Tesco then find all the car details for you). If not known, you can enter in all the information about the car. It asks where you would park the car, whether its for personal/business use, how many miles you do a year roughly, and then you click enter. The next page then shows you how much your insurance is per year, or how much it would be to pay monthly (this x12 will come to more than what it would cost to pay yearly).
I've now been with Tescos for three years, and my insurance has gone down by about £60 each year I've renewed, showing they do reward loyalty.
I think the best thing about Tesco is that they do allow you to pay monthly, whereas, whilst shopping around each year, I find a lot of insurers won't allow me to pay monthly. It is probably because of my age however, and hopefully that won't be a problem when I'm a bit older.
Most of my friends are with Tesco now, which goes to show they are very teenage/young person friendly, which is great because many insurers hate teens/newly passed people and don't like to give them a good insurance deal!
Whenever I've contacted Tesco to discuss my policy I've never been put on hold, and have always spoken to really helpful service adviser who talks me through every process. Of course they try to make me take out extra stuff, like any typical sales role, and they are good at their job, but don't push too hard to make you feel pressurised into taking out breakdown cover you don't want/need.
Touch wood, I've never crashed, therefore have never claimed, so unfortunately/fortunately for me, I can't tell you whether they really live up to their good name and follow through on claims. But from what I've seen, they are really good, reliable and easy to get hold of, much unlike some insurers that my friends deal with!
Summary: I recommend you get a quote from them as they're quite cheap

- 03/09/09 To be fair Tesco is fine when it comes to claiming, however always photograph the damage on your car, they arne;t always good at ensuring the garage has gathered all the evidence needed incase it goes to court. |
