I have been insured with Tesco for nearly five years now. I changed from Lloyds/TBS because it was a lot cheaper and offering the same cover.
Unfortunately I had an accident in my car, and it was my fault. But there was no hesitation from Tesco, they arranged for their assessors to collect the car the following day and also a courtesy car after that.
The assessors immediately wrote the car off, although I felt it was repairable. It was a 1998 Ford Focus estate and needed a new bonnet, bumper, near side wing and lights.
Although I had people who could put this right for me, and possibly saved some money, it would have been too much bother and more than what the car was worth at book price.
The car was one of the best that I had owned and if I knew the bother I was going to get from my newer Fusion I would possibly have got it repaired.
I partially blame all insurance companies including Tesco for the high prices that garages are charging these days. I feel that they are allowing garages to rip them off with high pricing in repairs as they have done since the year dot. This is also why insurance premiums are still high.
I know that garages still have high overheads, but to charge over fifty to over one hundred pound per hour labour is stupid money.
The Insurance companies could negotiate a lot cheaper than that and still get as good a service. I also feel they should look into the possibility that some of their accident surveyors need to study their results in future.

Summary: Good service but too easy to be taken for a ride.
