After receiving some astronomical quotes for my Saxo VTR (some as high as £2,300), I took the advice of a friend and tried Lloyds TSB.

Lloyds TSB's online quotation facility was easy to navigate, set out in plain english and asked only questions relevant for the purposes of the quotation.

Navigation of the site is very easy and even a simpleton like myself could manage to obtain a quotation. The home page is split into four quotation sections:

Motor
Home
Travel
Health

Wanting a motor insurance quote I clicked on Motor!!

The basic details required for a quotation are:

Name
Address
Date of Birth
Number of years held licence.
No Claims Discount
Claims History (if applicable)
Make of Car
Has the car been modified
Value of Car
Level of Cover Required

Once all the relevant information has been input by following the onscreen instructions it takes approximately 3 minutes for the premium to be calculated. Any premium quoted is guaranteed for 28 days.

In my case, their quote amounted to £623.58 for fully comprehensive cover, £532 cheaper than Direct Line (my insurer at the time). The voluntary excess on the policy also decreased from £400 to £150.

To actually purchase cover was simple and very straightforward. A quick call to Lloyds TSB's customer services and within 10 minutes my cover hd been arranged.

The customer services assistant I dealt with was helpful (offering products such as legal and breakdown cover without any pressure to purchase). He was also friendly and very knowledgable of the products and services he was offering. Taking the time to answer questions clearly and concisely as well as explaining the different levels of cover, excesses and monthly payment structure.

The policy documentation was issued within 24 hours.

An added bonus was that I could also pick the date on which the instalments l
eft my bank account meaning I could arrange my finances accordingly. My experience with other insurers is that instalments are taken a month after the cover commences, and is non-negotiable.

Peace of mind without breaking the bank. I would strongly recommend Lloyds TSB to anyone thinking of renewing their insurance.

In my case, a saving of over £500 for 10 minutes of surfing. What more could you ask for???

To date I have not yet had to make a claim against the policy (and long may it continue!!!), but should the unfortunate happen, I will update this op. with details of how Lloyds TSB deal with the claim.
