Advantages: Water proof, discrete battery pouch

Disadvantages: One colour sheme

Obviously no use at this time of year....but, if you're anything like me - allergic to the cold weather, when i clapped eyes on these little beauties, I just knew I couldn't survive without them! Also, the price was very appealing - usually £19.99 from Maplin, but were reduced to £9.99-ideal for the bargain conscious!

They are like your average gloves, but are battery powered to provide you warmth through the embedded heating wire. They take 3 AAA batteries in each glove, which can take a bit of getting used to - but in no time, I found that the gloves became like a second skin. The batteries are stored away in what I have told friends, is a secret pouch - an air of mystery I wanted to create about my magical gloves. The gloves are operated by a switch, so you can utilise them as you would normal gloves.

The gloves are quite chunky - so I couldn't really master driving with them on. They come in 3 sizes - small, large and extra large, I tried the small, thinking I have dainty little hands, but as they are quite chunky, found that I needed the large ones to be able to move my fingers freely.

It takes 5 minutes for them to reach their optimum temperature - 40 degrees - which I found to be more than adequate to keep the cold at bay. The heat traces your hand from palms to fingers and the lining inside ensures that there is very little heat lost.

On outward appearance, they come in just one set pattern - black with a blue patch with a silver logo - I suppose it would have been nice to have a variety of designs, but guess that manufacturing them wouldn't have been cost effective, as not everyone feels the chill like me.

My job involves me being outdoors for most of the time, so I totally made full use out of them. As they are also water resistant, I found that to be a brilliant feature - due to the temperamental weather, there was no worry about keeping them on. Now they are stored away, until the winter months, and i'm sure they'll power up and keep me warm.

Summary: Warm hands throughout the winter months

My OH could have done with some of these in his old car last winter when his heating packed up.

I'm not sure I'd ever have the need. I've never found that a traditional pair of gloves doesn't do the trick.
