Gilera Runner 180:
... an evening. Well that one got stolen so I got myself a Gilera FX 180.
I set off for work at the same time and seen the usual lads on their big superbikes and acknowledged them but they just laughed at me - very annoying! So I let rip when the lights changed and watched through mirrors them trying to catch up with me! What a laugh - they talked more about the Gilera after that and I was the one who was laughing. Honda CB1000 ... check for carefully, a la CBR: the starter clutch and the good ole cam chain tensoiner. The starter clutch is very expensive to repair as it is buried deep down in the domain of the sump monster, so requires a complete engine out and strip down, unless of course you can weild a spanner yer-sen. If the camchain is quiet and it starts without any dramas it should be okay (let it warm up and listen carefully). Lack of screen, as with all naked bikes, limits long term high speed crusing but hey, this is motorcycling not tourcruisedustbinfairinggirlie land. Tyre type makes a big difference to handling. The old Bridgestone BT20's were good, not sure if you can still get th... Read the full review: CB1000, retro riding for the larger than average bear by Ian Jay |

Yamaha Fazer FZS600 ... old Thundercat 600 4 cylinder still offers a fairly quick motor above 7k on the analogue dials for the quicker riders. Other characteristics of the motor are reasonable levels of viabration even at high revs and seemingly bomb proof mechanics. (So Far!) The gear box is ok but not perfect with a particularly knotchy change in the lower gears, minly with 1st and 2nd around the neutral gear I guess. Apparently thats normal for the box though and doesn't cause any major problems other that making people jump at the lights as it clunks into gear. The riding position is fairly upright and offers good comfort for up to 2 hours on the road if your going distance but stiff kne... Honda CBR600F ... ride. I was loaded into th van and i kept stopping to open the back because the datatool alarm kept going off and I hadnt asked how to disable it. i read the manual to put it in service mode and 3 and a half hours later finally got it home. The next day I couldnt wait to try it out my excitement and nervs were mixed but i knew i had to concentrate on the road. I turned the ignition on and watched in ore as the digital speedo went from 0 - 165 mph at the same time as the rev counter flicked to maximum and back. I pressed the ignition start switch and flicked the accellorator and just listened in ore as the counter went up to 5k revs and back in a split second. The ...
