Advantages: Great if tuned
Disadvantages: Terrible sluggers if left alone
What a jump from its younger brother the RS50, well the look is practically the same, but obviously great power difference. To start, the RS50 is an over-priced heap of un-reliable wanna be superbike! Not to mention its Snail-Pace acceleration. OK, this may beat most 50cc's, but a couple of my mates had them and I had a new Yamaha TZR50, which left them standing! Also, the fact that this bike can do 70-75mph, is utter nonsense. One of my mates had an RS50 (R reg), and we couldn't beat one another on top speed, we were both pushing 67mph, down the dual-carriage way (speed limit was 70mph!). So i suppose this isnt far of it, but on the straight and up hills this bike really dies. My friend had a brand new RS50 (Y reg) and this was even slower even after 3500 miles on the clock! This just about peaked 60mph. Anyway, he sold that slow piece of crap and brought himself a RS125... ...OK, so after beating off two RS50's i had little hope for Aprilia. My friend managed to get himself a tuned RS125 brought-up to about 36bhp, with an upgrade on the width of his rear Bridgestone Tyre. This machine was unbelievable. This machine would reach in excess of 120mph, and has the acceleration like no other. He picked this bike up second-hand so it had a few scratches, but was overall in good nick! He let me take it for a spin on a private road the other day, and it was amazing. This bike's acceleration isnt far off those big 600's! And my mate has found himself racing with a few guys on their dream machines including a CBR600 and found himself staying with the crowd. This has to be the bike in its 125 class and now that Cagiva's future may be undecided. Aprilia may walk away with this class! Unfortunately, prices on this bike may rise due to many factors including that of Cagiva and the fact the Aprilia's are doing all-right for themselves in major competitions. However, i have been riding bikes for a few years now. And i know tha
t when i was seventeen, this bike may have been a bit to extreme for newbies! Unless it is restricted and not played with. Then it may be OK! slow like the RS50. From the show-room, i think these bikes are pants, but played around with, by professionals, i must add; these bikes can become a real racing machine! I don't know if Aprilia are sly with this, but they can provide race kits. Shame they don't make them fast in the first place!

pete-on2wheels - 26/07/05 120mph....nuh! bit of exageration there. 100mph, plus a little bit maybe if your very lucky with the wind and dont weigh too much. UNLESS.... the bike had modifications. A pipe (and it would have to be a very good one), carby jetting (with lots of fiddling with the needles), some pretty damn good fuel and a very fresh engine. But if it had these you would have said i would imagine. although i did have an NSR150 which the speedo read just over 180kph, when the actual speed was just over 160kph, but then that was made in Taiqwan and i refuse to believe that Aprillia would be that bodgy. Diddo to Huddro's comment. |
