Advantages: looks, power, flickability
Disadvantages: Only a 125, Corrosion, parts
Sadly discontinued and rare Italian supermoto. 125cc, 31bhp (34bhp on 34mm carb models) Raucous liquid cooled engine taken from the mito spots bike needs to be kept above 8000rpm for decent power and progress. However the engine does put out 248bhp per litre so it needs lots of tlc and top notch oil. Parts can be expensive and less common parts need to be shipped over from Italy and can take a long long time. Very few aftermarket parts mean that cagiva parts have to be used and push the price up. Its not a bike to be kept on a tight budget! 17inch wheels mean that super sticky rubber can be put on. My favourite are Dunlop GPR70. Super in the dry, a little sketchy in the wet, but be prepared to replace the pegs as they will touch down on the corners. Compared to the other 125’s on the market, it runs with the best. The rs might have more power, but the cagivas are lighter. The mito has better brakes. Its at home in towns where its light weight and flickability allow it to be thrown through the smallest gaps. On roundabouts , only 250’s and 400’s are faster. Its got a indicated top speed of 100mph, but in reality its only 87mph. Not bad for a 125 though. For a learner bike its brill. The upright riding position gives confidence and you are less likely to drop it, and if you do, there is very little to damage. The few bad points are – corrosion. Even my 2year old bike had vast amounts of corrosion on the wheels and the exhaust needs painting once or twice a year! Its no worse than the apprillas though. Electric’s- typical italian! Paint- very thin and loves to flake off! Long roads- avoid them at all costs. The bike is noisy and vibrates a lot at high speed. All in all its an excellent learner bike. Insist on a service history, doesn’t have to be a dealer, because the engines are easy to work on and m
ost half competent home DIY’s can make a good job. They all rattle on the side stand due to lack of lubrication . Have fun if you buy one!
