Advantages: Reliable, Fun, Cheap

Disadvantages: Weather Protection

I bought my liquid cooled Derbi Atlantis 50cc and haven?t looked back since. I initially wanted to buy a 125cc motorbike but couldn?t afford to pay the insurance (rip off ireland) so I started doing some research into scooters and was pleasantly surprised when I found reviews on the atlantis. Shortly after I spotted an ad in the paper, a brand new derbi atlantis selling for ?1200(bargin), the reason for it being so cheap was because it was won in a raffle and the winners returned it to the dealer as they had no use for it and wanted a quick sale.

When I got the scooter home I was amazed at what a bargin I had got features included cigarette mobile phone charger in a glove compartment type storage space at the front of the scooter, electronic start and kick start, lock anchor to lock your bike to that immovable object and a Large under seat compartment with room for a full face helmet and small jacked.

Once I got it on the road it really came into its own the liquid cooled engine providing responsive acceleration and a very respectable top speed of 60mph/97kmh without any modifications, disc brakes on the front and drum brakes on the back provide ample amounts of stopping power in all conditions, it handles ridiculously well and is relatively quite for a scooter.

It is a solid well built scooter withstanding all that dodgy Irish roads have to trough at it. I've had it serviced once in the year that I?ve had it and it has proved to be very reliable, even on the coldest of Irish mornings it starts every time with the kick start.

A far as economy goes it takes ?5 to fill the tank and this should take you the best part of 80 miles. It?s also a scooter which makes it very cheap to insure although I still have to pay ?896 insurance every year (rip off Ireland).

So to sum this bike up I would have to say solid, reliable and most of all fun. This bike can and should be enjoyed by all young and old a great all rounder.
