Advantages: Practicality, Comfort, Reliability
Disadvantages: none
I bought my Deauville new in july 2002. As I was under 21 when I passed my test the bike had to be restricted to 33BHP. I was worried that the bike would be effectively useless with such little power on a heavy bike that is critisized for being under powered anayway. I was pleasantly surprised. That summer I toured France two up with an excessive amount of baggage. The bike has a useful amount of baggage space with the larger panniers and top box. We had room for all our camping kit and clothes for two weeks. Even with only 33BHP we were able to cruise at 90mph, it just wasn't particularly responsive at these higher speeds. We covered 4000 miles in two weeks with a puncture being our only problem. The bike was very comfortable for rider and pillion. The bike is used to regularly commute between London and Oxford (135 miles a day). It is able to easily filter through traffic and feels well balanced. You really don't notice the bikes weight until doing very slow manouvers. The bike is well suited to motorway journeys. The touring screen is highly recommended, altongh I had done 14,000 comfortable miles without one. Honda servicing has proved rather expensive, but that may just be due to the high milage I do. Tyres lasted me 12,000 miles, which is reasonable. No problems with the bike, but look forward to having it de-restricted. I would reccomend this bike to anyone looking for a reliable, comfortable commuting/touring bike.

Nice bike but not for me. I had a Transalp and wanted to upgrade to a Pan European but got a Triumph Trophy 1200 instead! |
