Very good machine. Heavy at low speed but after things get rolling it handles great. Reliable and comfortable. Easy to maintain and durable. One of the few weak points is the exhaust which tends to rust hard in salty climats. Same thing for the rear arm. But when inspected regular and properly maintained not a real problem.
Inspection and lubrication of the splines of the rear-end is required. And not that many dealers know how to do this properly. use a good moly-grease! (Honda 60%)

Falling over can be expensive since Honda charges you big money for every tiny piece. The good thing is that the engine is protected for such accidents with a great pair of guards. Mirror will just snap of in most cases but can be attached again without damage. Good design. In most cases nothing is hurt. Apart from some scratches in the black plastic covers.

The version(s) with ABS-TCS-CBS (1996 and later) is to be preferred although ABS-TCS is available since 1993.

One of the other problems is that these bikes are expensive....but on the other hand they keep there value well. For a good reason.

Bike is capable of running >200k miles if properly maintained. See also 3w st1100 dot org for tips and discussions.

The design is not that attractive compared to its new sister the ST1300 but good enough for me.

One of the things that must be replaced anyway is the wind screen. The original one creates too much turbulence and noise. Better by a MRA (in germany) or other brand.

Summary: Very well designed bike. Easy to maintain and great for eating miles....
