Deauville to Pan European (Honda Pan European ST1100)
Member Name: Peter 3696
Advantages: Comfort and reliability Disadvantages: Weight,Low Screen Height I purchased my W reg 2000 Pan European ST1100 non ABS model two weeks ago and rode it home from Doncaster to Warrington along the M62 in the worst weather imaginable.A steep learning curve but a very enjoyable ride non the less.I only passed my test in May of this year (I'm 55) and bought a Honda Deauville as my first big bike.It was a good bike but I fancied something bigger.Hence the Pan.For such a big and heavy bike, the handling is surprisingly flexible and agile.I expected it to just fall into bends but it doesn't and corners with ease. This isn't a sports bike by any stretch of the imagination but after the Deauville the performance always puts a smile on my face! The only two niggles I have about the Pan are the screen which is a bit low for my height (5ft 9ins) and causes quite a lot of buffeting. The other niggle is the weight. At over 300Kg fueled up it's quite a lump to try to wheel in and out of the garage. Those aside, the faring is good for keeping most of the bad weather off and the paniers are adequate for weekends away.Any regrets about buying a Pan? No way, anything that can make me smile this much is a winner. When I can afford it I will swop it for an ST1300 but I'll enjoy it for a few years first. Summary: Confident all rounder
