It's the best bike I have ever owned! (Honda Pan European ST1100)

Advantages: Smooth, tractable engine, reliability, build quality, Honda support, comfort, handling, performance, good resale value.

Disadvantages: Weight, seat height, Lack of adjustment in the screen.

I am currently on my second Pan. It is without doubt the best bike I have ever owned. It does all I really want from a bike. It is fast (that is 'usably fast'), forgiving, and supremely reliable. Fuel consumption is OK and the handling is good. I also ride them in connection with my job (a white one - guess what I do) and all the people on my team rate them very highly. Several own their own. I Have several friends who are MAC instructors (another clue) who also own their own Pans.

I'd never knock sports bikes, classics or trailies - but if you can only afford one bike you cannot do better than a Pan. It just will not let you down.

If I were re-designing it I would make the seat height adjustable a la BMW, give it an adjustable screen and higher bars - but really that is just nit picking. The bike is near spot on as it is. I think I would give it heated handlebars as standard in the UK , plus the deflector kit which is excellent.

Overall it will do almost all that you could want from a bike, AND keep its looks for a long time. Five Stars!!!

(Additional comment July 2002) - I have yet to ride the New Model of the Pan. It looks good, though expensive. I bet Honda lower the price to make it more competitive. The adjustable screen SHOULD have been standard on both versions in my opinion. I will have to reserve judgement on whether it is better than the old model. The 'old uns' are going to be a hard act to better.
