... right FOC in the end. It wasn't a fault of the machine. In general terms, removing my clear love for the bike, my honest good and bad points are as follows: -Original screen too low to be of use to someone my height, therefore I can recommend Zero Gravity double bubble, it looks the best. -The linked brakes are not the problem people make out. The rear brake however is completely useless and needs the front applied before anything happens. I have changed pads, fluids all to no avail. Trying braided hoses this year. ...more

Crowned Review Honda VFR800i: Jack of all trades? (753 words)

The thinking man’s sports bike. The best motorcycle in the world. The greatest all rounder. These are just some of the comments the media have lavished on the VFR800, but are they really justified? I’ve ridden one these bikes for over a year now, and 6000 miles down the road I must say the journos might just be right. So what’s the deal here? Is it really the Rolls Royce of bikes? Well, not the Rolls Royce, but maybe the Mercedes. You see, the VFR is a very well built, beautifully finished bike. It has very good range, performance and handling and excellent reliability. It’s easy to ride and comfortable, and provides ...  Read the complete review

Returning from Thailand after pottering around on the ubiquituous Honda 125s, I resolved to learn to ride a bike (as opposed to mastering the art of hanging on while it moved). I signed up with Westfield Motorcycle Training in Redditch - top boys, though their jokes needed carbon-dating, who got me from a 125 to a Honda CB500 in no time. Paradoxically, the 500 is easier to ride (I'd insert a bit of physics here but I think you'd see through it, so just take it as read that it is) and aside from a hairy moment decking the bike ten minutes before my test (a u-turn - get it wrong, and that perfectly balanced machine becomes 200kg that wants to smooch up to ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Honda VFR800i: VFR is King of the roads (243 words)

I've always loved Honda bikes. They just seem to have a certain something about them that most other manufacturers miss. When I first passed my bike test I had a wee Suzuki 450. I kept it for a month and moved up to a Honda CBR750F retro. Lovely bike, but I wanted something with a bit more poke for the twisty roads here in Ireland. I bought a VFR 750. OH - MY - GOD!! This bike handles like a dream. Even with a passenger on the back. I'm a member of a club, and we all go out for a spin in the region of 100miles every Sunday morning. Amongst the bikes there, there are Blades, Ningas, Birds. Nearly every bike you could think of above a 600. ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review All the bike you need if you're honest (700 words)

I bought my VFR800Fi in may 2004 after finally admitting that my SV650 was too small and too slow to satisfy my needs. I chanced upon the whole VFR thing from a friend who picked up a H reg 750, and let me have a ride. I was impressed by the power delivery and handling and the comfort (I am 6ft 4). I subsequently sold my SV and found a 51 plate, silver (best colour in my opinion) with the silver wheels. One previous owner, no marks, scratches etc and fell in love. All I can say about owners not wanted to part with them was true in my experience. I just kept upping my offer, because the guy just couldn't make his mind up to sell it to me. Obviously he did in ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Honda VFR800i: The Honda VFR 800 Fi Bike for all seasons. (147 words)

I was surprised when I rode on of these last year, it was re4ally uncomfortable!. You never thought you would hear someone say that re a VFR hey? Well the problem was the riding position was to upright. The time you had the bars in your hands I felt I was slouching. This caused the small of my back to hurt after just few miles. The rest of the bike was spot on. In has a 800cc V4 configuration fuel injected engine very nice with a good spread of smooth power. Okay it’s not going to knock your socks off in the acceleration stakes but it all about the journey on the VFR. The brakes though linked seem up for the job. The suspension and ride ...  Read the complete review
