Advantages: Big & Comfortable, Value For Money, Boot Space

Disadvantages: Poorly Manufactured, Ugly, Expensive Parts

At first glance, the Hyper looks like somethimg out of Star-Trek. In 'off-white' it doesn't come accross as the most attractive of scooters. However, at 6'2" I soon came to appretiate the amount of legroom and comfortable seat. The boot has more than enough room for a full-face helmet and other stuff. The scooter is quite heavy, so little risk of theft; but then suffers with regard to speed. At its best, I have got 65MPH out of it, but struggles in the wind or on slopes to attain 55MPH. However, acceleration to 40MPH is more than quick enough to pull away from cars at traffic lights or out of junctions.

Since riding the scooter from new in 2002, it has had a number of problems.
The first component to fault was the rear drum brake, which kept binding on to the rear wheel. Secondly, the carb packed in after 2000 miles; not a major problem, simply needed to be reset. The exhaust then corroded and split in two after just 3000 miles. Next to suffer was the indicator relay, it began to get temperamental at the worst of times (e.g. attempting to come off a roundabout at night, whilst raining!) and had to be replaced. Finally, and perhaps most seriously, one of the seals in the front brake calliper decided to come loose. This inevitably let a load of brake fluid through and slammed on the front brake, throwing me accross the road.

Apart from all that the scooter is great! Parts could be obtained through mail-order from Bavanar quickly enough and I even managed to get a fully detailed Service Manual. The parts were expensive, but for an imported bike (through J&S Accessories) I had not too much concern.

I would recommend this scooter on the grounds that it cost just £1100 from new, and when working perfectly (which it does most of the time, 20 miles a day) it is great fun to commute on.

Looks like a copy of the (very good but now obsolete) Piaggio Hexagon). Latest Hyosung scooter is the MS3 125 or 250 and well worth a look if you're on a budget.
