Advantages: looks good fun to ride

Disadvantages: Build quality, service

My step brother has an Italjet 125 Dragster, He likes the bike and it performs well when he can ride it.
The dealers Carnells have had the bike 12 times since it was bought in November 99. Everytime it goes there something has to be replaced. Mostly under warranty but Carnells keep NO STOCK of spare parts so if it is a indicator switch or brake pad it takes them 2 weeks to six months to get the part. When it was taken for the 2000 mile service the bike was at carnells for nearly four weeks because a brake disc and pads needed to be changed and they did not have the parts.
The original importers of Italjets to the UK lost the franchise and a new importer has taken over and there is a big squabble over money. This means that the Italjet owner is suffering. If you are going to buy an Italjet make sure that the dealer at least has basic parts such as brake pads in stock or you could be walking a lot more than riding.
One early problem was the battery went flat, for what ever reason, leaving the lights on? but this happens to any body. To charge the battery up the bike has to be taken apart. You would think that somebody would have thought to have left space to insert battery charger wire to charge the battery but no it's an hour job just to connect the battery to a charger.

This a disposable bike not designed to be worked on. Ideal for riding until it falls apart, which does not take long and then scrapped.

i agree there are some practicality issuses but with a little determination they can be solved

the lack of storage space can be solved by buying the dragster top box, providing you dont mind giving up your pillion seat (waste of time anyway). or if you dont want to dammgae the good looks of the scoot then simply get a back pack big enough to carry your lid.

The battery problem can be sloved with a optimiser

Reliab ility problems are mostly solved by sealing up the delicate parts of your scoot. most problems are caused by the salt and water that gets in your system in winter but by sealing off the nooks and crannys with tape (not visable externaly so dont worry) this should prevent your electrics failing and if you get a good dealer then other items sutch as brake discs and indicator switches will be easily avalible.

if cared for this scoot will serve you well for both work and pleasure. i'm sorry to hear you've had some bad experiences but i think you have just been unlucky. whatever happens tho remember it cant be as bad as a speedfight!

as for the formula its worse than the dragster for engine reliability but it is more powerfull (2 cylinders) and more practicle with the helmet compartment. but its about £200 more expensive and dosent look as good.
