Advantages: Value, engine, noise,
Disadvantages: Rear shock, snatchy at v low revs (1-3000 rpm), carburetion issues on my bike
OK, as these forums helped me pick my bike I thought I should contribute.
12 years driving poxy little Fiestas and Puntos = total lack of enjoyment.
1 month owning second hand ZX6R 2001 J1 = Yeeeeehaaaaaaa!
Despite being a "sports" bike this machine is fine for people returning to 2 wheels. Just be careful with the throttle, as illegal speeds approach before you realise. £2100 for a nice machine with 12 000 on the clock.
Issues: carburretion (I think) as it sometimes when warmed up after a long run. E.g long run, stop to fill up, restart, stall a few times unless you let it run for 2 mins. Think carbs might be in needd of cleaning or old fule still in there somewhere (it was stored unused for awhile by former keeper). Rear shock a bit harsh. A buit "wristy" for 6' 2" people like me, at least in town. Very occasionally miss a gear around 3rd - 4th when very low revs (cruising) and lazy foot action.
Good bits: everything else! POWER (including midrange, and even from 2000rpm it pulls great, but my last bike was a TZR250 and I thought this was OK in terms of low down power considering it weighed nothing), NOISE, LOOKS, cornering is solid, superb and confidence inspiring compared to what I remember of old bikes (AR125, TZR 250). £400 for a 12 000 service so beware of the mileag eof any bike you ar elooking at.
Spend £4000 on a decent car for transport or £3000 for a Kawa, inc insurance, new lid, leathers? No contest. Will buy another £400 banger for winter.
Summary: best purchase i think i have ever made.
