Advantages: None
Disadvantages: Poor quality, Unreliable engine, No Dealer Support or Interest
Before parting with your hard-earned pennies think long and hard about buying this machine. Poor build quality and terrible cosmetic finish are the tip of the iceberg, when it comes to reviewing this most disappointing product from our Italian friends. With one of the poorest support programmes in the industry rivalled only by Cagiva for shoddy responses to help with minor and major faults, Laverda are without doubt one of the worst suppliers I have had the misfortune to buy from. This machine has suffered constant problems with the gearbox and the engine has had numerous rebuilds to attempt to correct bad manufacturing faults. And it only managed 1800 miles in 12 months before I had decided that I preferred the loan bike which had been my constant companion for 11 months give or take a few days when my Laverda was not back in the workshop. Unless you have a sadistic desire and unlimited amount of patience and money avoid this product like the plague.

- 25/09/00 Well, I own a 97 orange/black Laverda 750 S Formula, I have had it 5 months, done over 12500kms and the only problem I have had is a faulty return spring on the gear selector. No gearbox rebuild or engine problems, in fact the Formula has a pretty much unburstable engine, it is much better than the earlier 750S.
As for the quality, the bike is finished with all the nice parts, the fit and finish is fine. Stainless steel fasteners are used throughout, and the bike still looks like new after surviving the Isle of Man, track thrashes, torrential downpours, etc.
The dealers are good, at least mine is, I have had no problems with the service side, but parts can be a little awkward to get, especially at the moment with the uncertanty with Aprillia.
It is a supremly well handling bike, doesn't go straight on like my friends R6, it is very planted, but if you are used to a UJM, you may find the change to a rev happy twin a bit too much. Still, pick you local twisty roads and go for a blat, you'll be grinning.... |

- 28/07/00 But wouldn't you rather push a Laverda than ride a UJM! |
