flclayson Moto Guzzi California Special: ... you ride and ride, but first you want to look at her...because she is simply gorgeous...later you will sit on her and listen to her soft growl, but for now, she waits for you to insert your...ignition key! Hey, this isn't a page from the Kama Sutra, but this Moto Guzzi is a machine that encapsulates passion... You look her over, and see Italian craftsmanship in her making; two glorious cylinders, stick...

... Italian workmanship on the Le Mans may lag slightly behind the technical innovations to be found on the latest crop of Jap machines, but for me the pure throbbing power (oooer steady missus!) of that glorious V-twin wins hands down every time. Le Mans comes in many versions, probably the best (some say) being the 850 Mark I. It has reappeared in various guises since, bored and honed to bigger and more thrilling sizes, but the Mark I stands out as THE machine i would die for. Blackpool, 300 miles away? No problem, sir. Snow on the motorways? Yeah, well, who cares? An engine running on one cylinder? No problem for the big Guzzi; it ran for those 300 miles on...

biglad Moto Guzzi 1100 Sport
... The Guzzi 1100 Sport is summed up by that one word - character. This could mean dodgy electrics, awesome unreliabilty or bad finish, but in the case of the 1100 sport (in all it's incarnations) it means fast, stable and handsome. Admitedly, it wouldn't keep up with a well ridden Japanese 600 on the twisties but that's not what it's for! Show it a sweeping A road and it more than makes up for its weight disadvantage. And if you get the later injection model it has the sort of torque "curve" that shows frantic gear changing is not going to be necessary. It has the Guzzi torque reaction (although much less than some I've ridden!) which take...

biglad Moto Guzzi Centauro
... You'll like the Centauro... It's quick (I found it easily outpaced a Duke ST4 I went for a test with), the braking is darned good, and the suspension (White Power) is out of this world for someone used to an old Guzzi. The only minor problems are that power delivery is on-off - no forearms of steel needed to open the throttle - which made it feel a bit snatchy, and the fact it sounded like a sewing macine. Still, a set of Termignonis and a re-chip will make it fruitier (and quicker). And they're very cheap at the moment, probably because the looks are an aquired taste... ...
