I know that buying a bike can be very nerve trapping. So hears a guide on buying.

Finance

Typical bank loans rates to consumers for loans of under £8000 are about 1-14 per cant APR at the moment (may 2001) and you van get finance for less than this. A five per cent flat rate is only 10 per cent APR. You should also give careful consideration to special finance deals. Especially when they're as good as the YAMAHA current 0 per cent offer on the R6

Dealers

Not all dealers are the same and not all deals are the same. Shop around for the best price on the telephone before you visit a showroom. While haggling for a price, find out what after sales you get. A hundred quid extra in your pocket isn't as useful as a through and accomplished mechanic who knows you and your bike- and cares about both. Try booking in an imaginary bike for a service before you go shopping. If they can't fit you in for three months, go elsewhere.

Part exchange

You should get more for your present bike by selling it privately. But if you do want to part exchange it make sure its clean and tidy, and don't get bullied by a salesman into accepting loads less then it's worth.

Money

Buying bikes with cash, cheque or switch won't always get you a discount. Dealers prefer the finance deals.

Timing

End of season, or just before plate changes can be a good time to buy. Salesman usually gets a bonus on sales and will want to get their quits up before the end of the period. It's the same deals for last year’s models. You can normally pick up a decent bargain.
