A cool Bike
This is in my humble opinion one of the finest 50cc Scooters available? Why? Because it actually handles well!

I bought mine in 1998 and it has survived 2 winters and countless rainfalls and has never failed to impress me. I originally looked to buy a Peugeot Speedfight (50cc) but was unimpressed by its wallowy handling and an over generous amount of slack in the throttle cable.

The Katana Sport has a wonderfully responsive throttle which makes it easy to dive in and out of the London traffic and get yourself out of the odd tight spot!

The handling is great. The large tyres deliver a high level of grip, even in the wet and are the proper treaded type unlike the knobbly tires found on those Piaggio Typhoons (very dangerous in the wet those tyres), it handles like a bike and gives you the confidence to lean into the corners rather than feel your way round them.

As for all restricted 50 cc bikes it tops out at 35mph, but has enough torque to ensure that inclines in the road do not result in a loss of speed.

The boot space is large enough to fit a helmet in. The seat is more than comfortable for 2 people and even with a passenger the performance and handling are not greatly impared.

The lights are not the most powerful but are more than capable of lighting your way.

Servicing is cheap and relatively easy to do yourself. The manual that comes with the bike is similar to a Haynes manual.

It is a great bike to ride and is good fun. I get approximately 80miles per tank of petrol (4 quid) but I do ride it quite aggressively.

The newer versions now have disk brakes on the back as opposed to the drum type on mine, the brakes on my model do require a good squeeze to stop the bike but are wonderfully progressive and never catch you out.

An allround great bike, great for first timers, like me, and you only need a full car licence to ride one.
