Advantages: Quick, good looks and grunty.
Disadvantages: No top-end for real racers.
The SV650 was a move up for me from being on an Aprilia 125SP. This bike unnerved me a bit as it was MY first big engine. The looks grow on you and the bike actually looks better when you see someone else sat on it. Funny but true!! I wanted a big bike but not a racing bike and this one sat out as something i needed. Classed in the Sports range but also useable as a commuter. This bike has comfort, fun and grin factor, if the looks dont get attention the exhaust will. Colours are Red, Yellow, Blue and Black which one you pick is down to your own tastes. The bike comes in two styles, half faired(SV650S) or unfaired(SV650). I chose the S version because the worst thing you need on the motorway is wind in your face. This is not brilliant though as it isnt a great protector. The bike is good for start ups even in cold weather but does need choke when left for hours. Once warm though it growls with pleasure and puts the smile on your face. Its mean and likes to be. Low and middle end grunt is where this bike delivers, with brilliant response it can go when you throttle it. A definite wheelie bike if you want one. The power in the 1st 4 gears is great. Then once you get above 70mph it starts to tail off. Top speed is 130mph but that must be on a non-windy day. The gear box is best when warm and you can flick through the gears easily with this superb gearbox Suzuki have given. Std tyres can be dodgy in the wet, it has a real tendency to slide. They do grip when in the sun though and can be hammered with hardly any kickbacks. Petrol is suitable for me as a full tank(16ltrs)lasts for over 150 miles(unleaded). Be wary of the fuel light though because once it stays on fully you have about 5 miles to get to your nearest station. This is a perfect bike for someone who wants mean fun with very good acceleration but also liks to use it as a commuter. I am glad i got this and not a bandit as i can now race and ride whenever i please with good looks and a g
runty engine. This bike has lots of appeal and can be made to look even better with new full fairings available and extras. If you are a boring rider dont buy this but if you have that fun streak in you then go for it!!!!

- 20/02/01 Ive been very pleased with my SV650S, it has power when i want it and is a comfortable ride.
Im also looking to replace in a years time with a TL1000.
At the moment though there are many upgrades and add ons for this bike so i`ll spend my money there. |

- 19/02/01 I can only agree. I have had my SV650SK1 for 3 months. 135mph at 'the pod' 0-100 8.39 secs. Nice commuter, although a bit tough on the old forearms! Keeps up with R6's as well. I am looking to keep this for around 2 years then trade up to a TL1000 if still in production. Roll on Summer! |
