Advantages: Sooo funny

Disadvantages: None

Im a huge fan of the teen style cheesy films. There's always some super funny moment in there and they never fail to make me giggle. Its a loose adaptation of Shakespere's 'The taming of the shrew'

It was released in 1999 and stars Heath Ledger, Julia Stiles, Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Larisa Oleynik. It was #2 at the box office but was really far behind The Matrix. Maybe it would have been #1 if it was released at a different date.

Cameron is the new kid at school and while being shown around by a geek, he's instantly smitten with Bianca, the popular girl. Bianca's dad has a rule that she cant date though unless her sister does. Problem is, her sister, Kat, refuses to date and people seem kind of scared of her.

Insert Partrick....the 1 guy who isnt scared of her. Michael (the geek) makes a deal with the model and popular guy Joey to pay Patrick to take out Kat just so he friend Cameron can get in with Bianca.

Thats all im going to say about the plot because i dont like ruining films for anyone who hasnt seen them.

The acting isnt nearly as bad as it normally is in these kind of films. Julia Stiles has been great in everything ive seen her in, as well as Heath Leger. I mainly watched this because of the great cast. Stiles normally plays the cute, shy kind of girl and i loved seeing her play a different kind of role that she pulled off really well.

Throughout the film references to Shakespere, his plays and sonnets.

The title song 'Cruel to be kind' is taken from a line from Hamlet and the sonnet Kat reads aloud in class is a rewriting of Shakespere's sonnet 141.

Here's a couple of lines from the film which really made me giggle:

Bianca: You're asking me out? That's so cute! What's your name again?

Ms. Perky: People perceive you as somewhat...
Kat Stratford: Tempestuous?
Ms. Perky: "Heinous bitch" is the term used most often.

Although this film does have a happy ending, one of the things i love most about it, is that it isnt as slushy and girly as most other teen comedies. There isnt really a big 'happy ever after', more a 'happy for now' kind of ending which was great for a change.

Give this one a shot, im sure you wont be dissapointed.

Summary: One of my all time faves
